This Le Cheminant Swiss watch has a 25 jewel automatic movement with mechanical alarm, set via the second crown.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the AS5008 movement, which was made between 1973 and 1977, we can date this watch to being made circa 1975.
CONDITION
The first thing you notice is the dial. This two two graduated blue dial is in great condition, and the use of the red alarm hand to match the red font for the alarm is a nice design touch. The stainless steel case is a chunky design, with areas of polished metal and contrasting brushed bezel. There are some scratches on the lug near 11, probably from an ill judged strap change in the past. The stainless strap is of the right period, but not made by Le Cheminant. We added it to replace the incorrect bracelet the watch arrived with, and we also cleaned the bracelet in the ultrasonic bath. The top crown allows you to wind the watch, quick set the day and date and set the time. The bottom crown winds and sets the alarm. The date wheel is in both English and German. Le Cheminant have been continually making watches since 1822, and famously provided the Royal Navy with many lines.

This men’s vintage Cyma Triplex has managed to stay with the box, papers and even the hangtag after all these years.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork we can accurately date this watch to being sold in January 1950.
CONDITION
The receipt for this watch states that this watch cost £9.14.4, which by using an online inflation calculator equates to over £325. The in house 400 series movement is running very nicely indeed. The case does have clear marks of wear on the chrome plating, and the dial also has even patina (possibly cigarette smoke). If you want a 70 year old watch to look new, then this is not for you. But if you want it to look like it has been enjoyed then this is right up your street. There are a couple of spots on the dial, hidden but the hands at ten past ten where most of the photos are taken , so we have taken extra pictures to show the hands in a different place. The strap and the glass has been replaced.

1953 Services Competitor men’s watch, with reversible case and box and papers
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied original guarantee we can accurately date this watch to Christmas Eve 1953.
CONDITION
What a find! This watch has the original paperwork from over 60 years ago, as well as a service receipt and guarantee from when someone had it serviced in 1965. The downside are the spots on the dial. The upsides are everything else! The watch is running strongly – these Services have the loudest tick of anything we have experienced! The bracelet looks to be correct to the period, and has an unusual but clever and comfortable fastening method. The video explains better than words will. The chrome is all in good order, and thanks to the design of the case, you can use this watch with either the crown on the left or right hand side.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the movement production dates, combined with the styling, we believe this watch was made circa 1960. Yema started using the name Antichoc (anti shock) in 1950, but didn’t start advertising until 1960 so it is hard to be more accurate.
CONDITION
Thewatch features a manual wind Jeambrun 26DC movement, which is working fine. One nice feature of this movement is the roulette date wheel, with alternative days in red or black. The dial has a few small marks, most noticeably a small scratch to the right of the hands boss. The gold plated case has clear signs of wear, but nothing worse than general wear and tear, the screw down case back, originally there to help the watch be water resistant, is also good at keeping the movement and dial clean. The strap is new, woven leather with a gold tone buckle.

CONDITION
We have applied the nickname ‘Silverstone’, after noticing the case and dial colour of this Astral is not too dissimilar to the Heuer Silverstone also launched in 1974 – although this is about £3-7,000 cheaper of course!
The leather strap appears to be original – it is the right colour, but faded, and has a period buckle. But the strap is cracked and we have fitted a new leather strap, nicely colour matched, to suit. The watch will come with the new strap fitted, and the original loose in the box. The two white hands are easy to read against the contrasting red dial, and the dial is similarly stark and symmetrical. The dial is bubbling along the top, which you see in some lights but not others. The video will show this to the best representation. The chromed case is very good, and the acrylic crystal has been polished to remove small scratches but does have very slight crazing to the centre that you will only see very occasionally.
